Holyhead Primary School was established in 1872. The original building was in Meeting Street. The school moved in 1970 to its current building, which originally was a girls secondary school. Thomas Telford built the stretch of the London to Dublin Coach Road on which the school was built and as the road ended at Holyhead in Anglesey it was called Holyhead Road and hence Holyhead Primary School. A depiction of a coach and horses can be found on the car park entrance of the school.
Holyhead has many advantages. It has spacious teaching areas and extensive grounds. The school is well equipped with interactive whiteboards in each classroom, a well-maintained computer suite and a set of wireless laptops. The children all have the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument in Key Stage 2. They learn to swim from Year 2 onwards. There are a wide range of after-school clubs that are available to attend ranging from sport to art to a very well-attended and successful Homework Club.
Some children have the opportunity to take part in musical and art festivals in the local area. The school also has an excellent Learning Mentor to support children who need a little extra help or encouragement to get them learning successfully.
